Our Programs

YouthBiz is rooted in the belief that young people are the key to sustainable social change. With a commitment to providing opportunities for social and economic empowerment, YouthBiz serves over 500 middle and high-school students each year.

Entrepreneurship // The question “what do I want to be when I grow up?” starts here.  Youth explore jobs of interest, develop fundamental business skills, focus on entrepreneurial activities, create business plans, and outline long-term career goals. We work to move young people from an hourly, to salary, to ownership mind-set.

Education // Success at school is achieved by bridging each youth’s current interests and actions with long-term outcomes.  Youth learn skills that support their academic lives – computer fundamentals, communication and public speaking, financial literacy, and decision-making – and equip them with lasting transferable skills.

Community Leadership // Good leadership takes practice.  Youth become entrepreneurial thinkers, learn peaceful conflict resolution skills, problem solve around community needs, and gain an understanding of the importance of volunteerism and community investment.

What makes YouthBiz programs unique?

Entrepreneurial Education // To succeed in the shifting 21st century economy, young people will need skills and attitudes beyond those taught in traditional academic settings.  YouthBiz programs align with the National Standards for Entrepreneurial Education, cultivating young peoples’ collaborative and entrepreneurial capacity.

Incentive Based // YouthBiz is not just an after-school program, but a first job experience.  Youth are able to earn financial incentives based on performance in the program and at school.  These incentives create an environment of accountability, responsibility and positive reinforcement.

Peer-to-Peer Leadership // Our peer-to-peer leadership model utilizes youth leaders to teach and facilitate classes, interview perspective participants, develop curriculum and assist with program evaluation. Youth leaders are challenged to step up as leaders and younger participants are able to connect with an accessible and relevant role model.

Social Responsibility // We are working to raising young entrepreneurs and leaders who are equipped and committed to making positive change in their communities.
